Kiwanis Family House

The Kiwanis Family House (KFH) is a separate 501c3 nonprofit founded to support respite needs of families facing medical emergencies. KHF was founded in 1984 by Vern and Leona Bright with the help of Kiwanis International, the will of many local Kiwanis clubs and the generous collaboration of neighboring University of California Medical Center. The House serves as a respite for families not only throughout California, every state in the U.S. and nearly 3 dozen countries from around the world. Facilities include 32 private bedrooms with bathrooms, four shared kitchens, and shared dining and living spaces. Also available are laundry facilities, and parking for 6 RV vehicles with hook-ups.

Kiwanis Club of Carmichael provides furnishings, linens and room decor for a designated room. During a family stay they are given access to a shared kitchen with their own assigned refrigerator, and cooking areas. The club provides general foods in a shared pantry which guests may use without additional charge. There is also a supply closet with paper goods, laundry soap, and hygiene products for guests convenience.

All operating costs including staffing, maintenance, and supplies are provided through the generosity of the community. The Club allocates a portion of our annual fundraising to the benefit of the Kiwanis Family House.

The Kiwanis Family House is located next to the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento.
